Notes on the author

Cesare D. is the pen name under which the writer publishes literary works in Italian and English (novels, stories, poetry and other writing).
His origins are Etruscan-Tuscan-Leghornian and Celtic-Viking-Scottish.
He grew up in Tuscany and Scotland and various other parts of the world.
In his very early youth, when the Second World War was in its final stages, he worked with British and American Intelligence to avoid armed combat in a war that tore his conflicting origins apart.
After the war, he graduated in Medicine and is now practising in Rome.
While studying in Italy, Britain and the United States, as well as in Switzerland, Holland and Germany, he worked for various Italian and foreign newspapers and magazines and was enrolled on the Italian Professional Guild of Freelance Journalists.
He was foreign editor for the biggest Italian News Agency (ANSA) and was responsible for the translation of several books from English and French for various publishing houses.
Two of his books, and numerous articles, of a scientific nature are moderately well known in their field and some of his journalistic and narrative pieces have also appeared in newspapers and magazines in Italy and abroad.
However, for most of his literary output he has preferred not to go through the weary and often disappointing procedure of contacts, friendships and string-pulling that opens the doors to literary reviews and publishing houses.
Instead, he has published privately all his more creatively demanding works.
True, he has given away a few copies to his friends, and all but a very few have managed to avoid reading them.
Of these, none has stopped saying hello, so, if nothing else, the experience seems not to have been too unpleasant.
The end result, however, is that Cesare D. can consider himself to be the least published and least known bilingual writer living.
And probably also one of the oldest.
For these two reasons it is by now too late for him to win the Nobel Prize for literature.
His work includes three novels, a dozen or so stories and numerous poems - some of it in both Italian and English and some in just one of the two languages.

Bibliography (latest works)

In 1994 he published in Italy his first novel "Ta-Ta-Ta Ta-Ta: romanzo breve di una cronaca incompiuta" ("Ta-Ta-Ta Ta-Ta: a short novel with an unfinished story"), set in early 1968: the year of the students’ May uprising in France.

In the same year he published the bilingual story "Troppo Tardi - Too Late", now in second edition 1998, which recalls an episode of the Shoah.
The English version was published by the Jewish Chronicle literary supplement of 23rd February 1996.

In 1996 he published another bilingual story "Tempo di guerra - Taking Sides", now appearing in a new 2001 edition, which tells of the choice facing a boy with dual nationality during the Second World War.
The English version is being published in The Scots Magazine.

Again in 1996, he published two stories in Italian under the title "Due racconti difficili" ("Two difficult tales").
The first, "Giornale di bordo" ("Logbook" but the title of the English version shall be "Coming of Age"), returns to the subject of a boy choosing sides in the civil war which followed the fall of Fascism in Italy and his infatuation with his young widoved mother.
The second, "La gabbia" ("The Cage"), deals with the conflict of a father faced with a daughter desperately in love with him.

In 1997 he published another story "La mantella rossa" ("The red cape" but the title of the English version shall be "Fortunes of War") which can be seen as the sequel to "Taking Sides".

In 1999 he published his second novel "Lei: quasi un romanzo" ("She: almost a novel"), a collection of short tales which represent a series of landmarks in the life and loves of a man.

In the year 2000, which as a young man he had never expected to reach, the author published, again privately, "Poems etc." - a bilingual anthology of poetry.

And now, in 2001, finally, with the third millennium already upon us, he published a second bilingual anthology of poetry and other writing, "Arrivederci a tutti - Farewell to All and Sundry" - ("Fare-thee-weel Tae Ane and au’"), "Poesie per i prossimi mille anni" ("Poems for the next thousand years") - which is coming out at the same time as a third anthology of poems, some of them already included in "Arrivederci" but placed in a different context and surrounded by other writing.
Its title is "A Love Story: La prima storia d'amore elettronica del mondo" ("The first electronic love story in the world"). 

Then, in 2002, a third novel  "Uomini, Donne e un amore diverso" (Men, Women and a different kind of love), about love and sex - without prejudices.

And the author seems to have every intention of continuing to write and publish for as long as time and energy will allow.
