My past is all that was,
But also what was not.

The call that was not heard,
The threat that was not feared,
The word that was not said,
The price that was not paid.

The flag that was not cheered,
The arrow that was not shot,
The war that was not fought,
The goal that was not reached.

The promise never kept,
The night that was not slept,
The kiss that was not shared,
The girl that was not had.

The love that never bloomed,
The wound that never healed.
